Willem Dafoe is joining Gerard Butler, Billy Bob Thornton and Common for Relativity Studios\u2019 submarine thriller Hunter Killer. The film concerns a renegade Russian military leader whose actions lead to the brink of war with the U.S. It\u2019s then up to an elite U.S. Navy unit to stop him from causing World War III. Dafoe has been cast as Russian submarine Capt. Andropoyov.<\/p>\n

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale<\/em>, Green Lantern<\/em>) directs from a script by Peter Craig, based on the novel Firing Point<\/em> by George Wallace and Don Keith.\u00a0Produced by Original Films\u2019 Neil Moritz and Toby Jaffe, in association with\u00a0Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, it\u2019s executive produced by Tucker Tooley, Arne Schmidt, and Butler.\u00a0Hunter Killer<\/em> is scheduled to begin filming in New Orleans in July.<\/p>\n

Dafoe will next be seen in\u00a0alongside\u00a0Matt Damon in The Great Wall<\/em>, directed by Zhang Yimou. He\u2019s repped by CAA and Circle of Confusion.<\/p>\n
